news > 4 june 2005 Promoting Veganism in LondonOn 4 June 2005 Vegan Campaigns held a stall and leafleting at Clapham to promote veganism and give out information highlighting the cruelty of the meat industry. There was a lot of interest and several members of the public had questions about the practicalities of going vegan and vegetarian. With leaflets, vegan guides and recipe books at our fingertips, they were able to leave with plenty of ideas on moving towards a vegan diet. We also had a wide range of information about other non-animal products such as toiletries, shoes and clothing. As well as giving out information, samples of free vegan food were given out, to show that a cruelty free diet could be tasty and varied, as well as healthy and nutritious. The food on offer included products donated by companies such as Redwood cheatin meat and Toffuti vegan cream cheese. Volunteers had also provided home made dishes such as quiches and jam tarts. We also purchased and gave out vegan treats such as chocolate. In general people were very complementary about the food, and quite a few said they would consider changing towards a non animal diet. It was a great opportunity to introduce people to vegan food and a cruelty free lifestyle. It was also good to take the message out to shoppers on the High St, when people are thinking about buying food and clothing etc. If you would like more information or advice about organising your own event, contact us. Overall, it was felt that the event was very positive with a lot of good feedback. It is planned to hold similar events, each in a different part of London. The next few events will be decided at the Vegan Campaigns meeting at 7pm on Monday 20 June at Conway Hall, Red Lion Square WC1 (nearest tube: Holborn). |
