Welcome to the London Vegan Festival webpages, which are being hosted by Vegan Campaigns. The London Vegan Festival is organised by CALF/Vegan Campaigns.
Juliet Russell Juliet’s songs are often inspired by London life, especially by the gaps in between all the movement and noise. She is fascinated by the way nature is all around us even in the most urban environment and many of her songs fuse natural imagery within the landscape of the city. Juliet has a unique and intimate vocal style and has performed at Glastonbury, the Big Chill, the Jazz Café and has toured the UK as a solo artist, as well as collaborating and singing with an array of amazing artists including Damon Albarn, Brian Eno, Imogen Heap, Seal, Ringo Starr, Bon Jovi, The Orb and has written original music for film, television and radio.
At the London Vegan Festival, Juliet will be performing a stripped down, acoustic set with her regular guitarist and collaborator Ben Barritt.
Juliet co-founded Sense of Sound, an artist led, creative company that has singing at the heart of everything it does, and through this Juliet also creates voice projects with adults and young people, helping them to find their own voices and musicality. See www.senseofsound.net. Juliet also performs as part of the Sense of Sound Choir; a contemporary a cappella choir that has been featured on BBC 2’s Bafta winning series The Choir; Boys Don’t Sing and BBC1’s Last Choir Standing.
Juliet is currently recording her songs under a new project entitled Nature Girl, which will be launched in October 2009.
“Seeing Juliet Russell on stage, you can’t help, but feel you’re witnessing the birth of a legend. That this is one of those festival moments that people will talk about for years (and pretend they were at). Juliet’s soaring voice has everyone in rapture. They’re swaying on the grass and breaking into spontaneous cheers of delight. She can barely contain her delight at the response she’s receiving. During the highlight of her set, “Easy Baby”, it’s hard to tell who is having more fun – Juliet or the audience! On CD, Juliet is a warm mixture of smoky vocals, thoughtful tunes and Orbit-style production. Live though, it’s the soulful side of the music that shines through. Juliet’s backing singers are so perfect, and her band plays so tight that she actually sounds better on stage!”

“A gorgeous, jazzy vocal” DJ magazine / Record review
”The first track 'Lazy' managed to stop the whole room talking, and with a cello uniquely used as a percussive instrument at times, she really didn't need much help in getting the audience's well deserved attention. 'Oh Damn' resembled the poppiness of Kylie's more recent hits, but with a haunting dropped down section that has the deeper, darker feel of Bjork.” Manilla (Music website)
