Love Revolution

Love Revolution, formerly Anthea Neads & Andy Prince, are an innovative mix of rock, 60s-style psychedelia and contemporary influences (with a nod to their folk-influenced past) featuring striking vocals and lyrical basslines. The core band members are husband and wife songwriting team, Anthea & Andy Prince, and they are joined on recordings and for some gigs by other talented musicians.

"Love Revolution", the second album from Anthea & Andy, sees them moving on from their folk-rock debut - "Penhayl" - to a more upbeat and rock-orientated sound with the addition of drummer Dave Buckley and multi-instrumentalist, Matt Tweed. Anthea's powerful yet sensitive vocals deliver their thought-provoking lyrics and catchy choruses over a background which features Andy's unique melodic basslines and includes soaring electric guitars, vintage organ sounds, mellotron, sitar and Dave's powerhouse drumming. The perfect summer album to uplift and energise!

“As its title and accompanying imagery suggest, what we have here is, at least in part, a joyous homage to the upbeat love-and-peace aspiration of the 60s and 70s with smooth, psychedelic folk providing an easy-going lilt for Anthea Neads’ quite divine, Annie Haslam-like, tones. And though it’s a full-band performance, or at least four musicians with a swathe of instrumentation between them, it’s the quality of those immensely appealing vocals, wrapped enticingly around Prince’s expressively roaming bass lines that lifts this record and provides the warmth at its core. Recorded in Cornwall, close to the wildness of the Hayle estuary, these are recordings that seem to have taken-on some of the clarity of the air and the beauty of the surroundings, but the sounds float further afield so that when Neads sings of ‘sacred places/ancient places’ it’s to the evocative backing of sitar and shruti box. It has an ethereally new age healing quality in its textures – again the elegantly charming voice of Neads. At the end, though, perhaps it takes a wistful look back across the decades at a generation that promised much. ‘We are part of the love revolution’ Anthea sings longingly as this quite captivating record plays itself out."

Anthea & Andy Prince represent a synergy of influences and complementary talents that combine to create a fresh and exciting psychedelic folk-rock sound. Anthea first began working with Andy - a renowned bassist and Chapman Stick player - on her solo material, released in 2010 on her debut album "Jars of Clay". This earlier material - some of which appears in the duo's current live set - demonstrates Anthea's sensitivity and ability to excel at tender and evocative folk-influenced vocals with a tinge of jazz and elicits comparisons to the likes of Sandy Denny and Jacquie McShee.

Anthea and Andy formed a writing partnership in early 2011 and have been performing as a duo ever since. They recorded and released their joint debut album "Penhayl" during 2011 to critical acclaim. Described by R2 Magazine as “English pastoral acoustic rock of the highest order ****”, Anthea and Andy’s joint sound is both innovative and somewhat reminiscent of English 60s folk-rock pioneers and the San Francisco summer of love scene. Anthea’s vocal sound has developed since her solo days and she has blossomed into a powerful and “refreshingly distinctive” vocalist who delivers the pair’s “love and peace with attitude” lyrics with passion and integrity.

Andy plays unique lyrical counter-melodies - using the bass as both a lead and rhythm instrument - influenced by the likes of Jaco Pastorius, Paul McCartney and Jack Casady. He transfixes audiences with his astounding musicianship whilst also providing warm harmony backing vocals. Andy is also an accomplished Chapman Stick player and has begun to use this versatile instrument in the duo's material (seewww.andrewprince.net). To date Andy has released one beautiful instrumental Chapman Stick album, “Band of Rain” (under the name Andrew Prince), and is due to begin recording the next one shortly.

Anthea and Andy’s live performances are a moving experience which take the audience on a journey which is uplifting, empowering, poignant and memorable. Their warmth, onstage humour and personal chemistry combine with passionate delivery and enthusiasm which draw onlookers into their world. Anthea and Andy’s lyrics - at various times rousing, idealistic, personal and universal - paint vivid pictures of their many travels, passions, experiences and ideals. Their anthemic new material strikes a chord and invariably has people singing along on first hearing.
