For some years Matt has been working to bring together the ideas inherent in the concepts of Animal Rights and Environmental Action under the Vegan banner. A typical example of this was organising the Animal Rights tent at the Kingsnorth Climate Camp, where speakers from organisations such as Sea Shepherd, Animal Aid and Viva, as well as Matt himself, came to share their knowledge and experience with Environmental activists. As a result, a number of people felt able to make the decision to go Vegan, as well as people who were already Vegan recognising the growing need to integrate the Environmental aspect.
To go Vegan is always a good thing, to recognise the need to see this not just as a rejection of animal cruelty, but as a desire to respect all that comprises the Earth, an even better one. The Earth is crying out for the human race to have a better way of looking at things, and there can be no doubt that Veganism is that idea. The number of people going Vegan around the world is accelerating rapidly, and we must ensure that we maintain the necessary integrity at its heart, an integrity based not just on the Vegan diet, but also on a proper development of Donald Watson's original opposition to the abuse and exploitation of all non human animal lives.
