There will be a range of interesting workshops, speakers and performers at the London Vegan Fesival. Here is the timetable.

Room A: Downstairs

11.30 - 12.20 Animal Testing: A False Safety Net
Dr. Margaret Clotworthy, Science Consultant for Europeans for Medical Progress, will present the case for modernising medical research, by replacing animal tests with more relevant technologies.
The trust's film, "Safer Medicines", will feature world leading scientists presenting their vision for the future of drug safety testing, and will showcase state of the art approaches ensuring that drugs in the future will be safer than they have been in the past.
12.30 - 1.20 James French - Animal Communication and Reiki Healing James works with animal communication and Reiki healing. He is the originator of Animal Communication Training (ACT) which is an organisation devoted to teaching people the skills to communicate with animals through feeling, images and ideas. Read more...
1.30 - 2.20 Michelle Desilets - Borneo Orangutan Survival Foundation Film of the palm oil industry - showing how the demand for palm oil in everyday products and how bio fuels are driving the destruction of the rain forest in Borneo and Sumartra, the only places where orangutans live.
2.30 - 3.20 Sharon Nunez, Igualdad Animal/Animal Equality Abolitionism - from theory to practice in Spanish speaking countries. See more...
3.30 - 4.20 Sandra Hood - Raising a Vegan Child Raising a child as a vegan can be an anxious time for parents, particularly when challenged by health professionals, friends and family alike -confidence can start to wane. This talk is intended to reassure parents on how to provide key nutrients for good health in a practical way. Sandra is a dietitian and author of 'Feeding your vegan infant - with confidence' a Vegan Society publication.
4.30 - 5.20 Stephen Walsh PhD - Plant Based Nutrition
This talk shows that animal products are not needed for excellent health: the longest living group of people in the modern world are vegan. In addition, the specific dietary choices to increase the benefits of a plant-based diet are summarised in the form of simple practical guidelines. Questions are very welcome.
5.30 - 6.20 Total Raw Food - The Eating For Energy Experience
with Jess Michael - The Raw Lifestyle Coach
Jess Michael, known to many as 'The Raw Lifestyle Coach' tops the list as one of the UK's most inspiring and motivating raw food promoters. She cured herself from debilitating Chronic Fatigue Syndrome which left her bed bound, with an intuitive raw vegan diet, when she was just 19yrs old. Read more...
6.30 - 7.20 John Curtin - "Peace for Animals" A discussion on the role of meditation and other spiritual practices within the remit of campaiging for animal liberation.

 

Room B: Downstairs

11.30 - 12.20 Learn the basic techniques of Indian head massage This will be a fun, practically based workshop. We will practice on each other. No experience required! Despite the name, it's much more than 'just a head massage'. It also works on the shoulders, arms, hands, neck and face. Giving instant release from physical tensions, stress, and easing long-term ailments such as chronic stress, muscular pain, R.S.I, insomnia, and headaches etc etc. Read more....
12.30 - 1.20 Guy Taylor - No 2 ID Information about the campaign against ID cards and how to get involved. An important issue for all areas of activism and civil rights.
1.30 - 2.20 Hypnotherapy: using your mind for a change! Clinical hypnotherapist Brian Jacobs explains what hypnosis is and isn't. How hypnotherapy can help you improve your life by breaking old habits, remove fears and phobias and become more effective in what you do.
2.30 - 3.20 Informal gathering for vegan parents and their young children Aimed at parents and their children aged 0-5 to meet and chat: Facilitated by vegan mother, Chrissy Leyland.
3.30 - 4.20 Debbie Joy - Meditation and Deep Relaxation We will build up an OM chant in sections and then chant in unison creating integration within the self, with each other and with the wider universe. Deep relaxation melts tension away for a blissful sense of well-being. It builds people from within.
4.30 - 5.20 Joanna, Vaccination Awareness Network (VAN) A talk and discussion about ethical dilemmas with vaccination. This will include why Joanna set up VAN, how vaccines are made, dangerous chemicals involved with vaccination, aborted human fetal tissue in vaccines, and immune system damage from vaccination.
5.30 - 6.20 Protest in an Age of Repression On 1 May 2007 in a series of raids across the UK , 700 police officers arrested 32 animal rights activists. This occurred exactly 10 years to the day that New Labour was first elected promising 'a New Life for Animals'. Vegan anarchist Paul Gravett will discuss what has changed in the last decade and whether political protest has any meaning in an era dominated by fear, insecurity and war.
6.30 - 7.20 Close Your Eyes & Open Your Mind - An Introduction to Spiritual Meditation Dada Nabhaniilananda, a yoga monk and meditation instructor, bases this workshop on his book of the same title. He uses simple spiritual exercises, music and visualisations to help participants experience the difference between different types of meditation.

11.30 - 12.20 Sarah and Wendy - "Rambling Kitty" Violin and Accordian duo.
12.30 - 1.20 Kaye's Cookery Children will learn how to make a simple vegan recipe. Suitable for all ages. Facilitated by Kaye Wotherspoon. Thanks to Farm Around and Redwoods for donating food for the workshop.
1.30 - 2.20 Singing and Song Games for Children and Parents Andy Halsey, renowned musician, will lead an interactive singing and song games workshop with children and their parents.
2.30 - 3.20 Catherine Parker - Raw Food Demonstration Catherine will demonstrate how to make a raw, vegan, sugar and wheat-free chocolate pie. During the demo she will talk about the benefits of living on a raw vegan diet and will answer questions. Samples will be available to taste, and the recipe will available at her stall. 3.30 - 4.20 Alison's Art Workshop Come and have fun making beautiful dip dyed Japanese papers, which you can then take home. Facilitated by Alison Coe.
4.30 - 5.20 Max the Magician The Magic of Max the Magician will amuse, baffle and raise awareness of the issues that the London Vegan Festival is promoting. Skilful sleight of hand that has environmental empathy.

 

Small Hall (upstairs)

11.30 - 12 Lowrisers Mancunian band. Mixture of folk/rock and jazz/reggae.
12.15 - 12.45 Nick Weaver Nick writes, produces and performs Positive Music. A relatively new category which is growing rapidly in America and beginning to reach out to the rest of the world. This is non-religious, inspirational music, which focuses on encouraging and supporting self belief and personal growth. Read more...

3.15 - 4.15 Keith Mann Behind the Mask - 20 minute trailer for the film plus questions and answers.
4.30 - 5 Andy Halsey Andy spent much of the Nineties as a solo artist with RCA and other labels, playing the clubs of London and New York. He has worked with a variety of established artists and poets, gaining experience as a performer in major and intimate venues alike.“His new material mixes folktronic grooves and poetic country ballads…The subtly constructed lyrics and heartfelt melodies are both compelling and moving.”Folk Echoes 2006
5.15 - 5.45 Jim K Stand-up comic
6 - 6.30 K Anderson Having come Dick Whittington style all the way from Oz to make his musical fortune, K Anderson has been busily gigging his way across London to growing acclaim. A singer-songwriter with a white soul voice and rhythm and blues influences, he does the angsty boy-with-a-guitarthing, bringing humour and depth to his lyrics and storytelling.....
6.40 - 7.10 Sam Kearney In a nutshell, Sam Kearney is an observant, world-aware and truth-speaking woman, backed up by a strongly held and competently wielded guitar.
7.20 - 8.30 Speed Meeting


Come and meet other people. Speed meeting differs from speed dating - its open to everyone. its a chance to meet others for networking and socialising. If you would like to book on, visit the Love Foods stall in the Main Hall on the day. Organised by Love Foods. Over 18s only.

2 - 2.50 Speak Campaigns and Stop Huntingdon Animal Cruelty (SHAC)
Mel Broughton and Keith Mann will give an update of the campaign against the proposed primate lab in Oxford and the campaign against Huntingdon Life Sciences.

 

3 - 3.50 Chris Tomlinson - Titnore Woods Campaign Titnore Woods Campaign short videos and talk. A great example of how direct action can really work. Some great lessons to be learnt for other campaigns.
4 - 4.50 Veganism: The African Model takes off - From palate to healthy nation Ben Israel talks about how the Regenerative Health and Nutrition Project 2006 marked the beginning of the holistic practices of the vegan lifestyle, being used as a national working institution to help lower the incidents of ill health and regenerate the well being of varied communities.
